Ramping and shimming are necessary to preserve your magnet’s homogeneity – the term used to describe the uniformity of a magnetic field in the center of a scanner. Even fresh from the factory, your new magnet will need to be ramped up to its full field so it can undergo a set of tests and calibrations that will bring it to the desired homogeneity specifications.
